1776 will be playing a show on Independence Day, July 4th, at Rontoms in SE Portland. What makes this party cool is not the obvious cracks about the year of our nation’s independence coinciding with one of today’s hottest bands going, although I’m sure some of you may be chuckling. No, the news that joining the Sixers will label mate and returning champion Logan Lynn, and our newest World Beater, The Hugs. This is a bigtime shindig you will be talking about for years, but not if you miss it. Your kids don’t need to hear about how on July 4 2010 you were to Sauvie’s Island. Boring. Come to Rontoms and see some history.

The Upsidedown Human Destination Vinyl Party June 25th

The Upsidedown will be having a party in celebration of the vinyl release of their 2008 album Human Destination on June 25th with a show at Portland’s Someday Lounge. Artist Robert Hardgrave, whose painting ‘Catherdal’ serves as the cover for for the Beat The World release, will be making a special appearance at the show, painting live during the performance.

Also appearing at the show, Federale, Hawkeye, and E.B. Harris and the Afterlife Revival.

Admission is $7 at the door. This is a 21+ show.

Logan Lynn & The Gentry Tour Kick-Off May 27

If you have been following Logan Lynn’s Tweets the past few months, you may have noticed that he mentions going band rehearsal a lot, and it strikes you that, “wait, what, does Logan play with a full band?” On May 27th, at Doug Fir in Portland, you will find out.

“This is the Summer Tour Kick-Off show where I am unveiling my new full band setup as Logan Lynn & The Gentry,” says Mr. Lynn. “We have spent the last 7 months in hiding re-writing all of my songs to be a wild, loud, dance rock/dance punk hybrid and it’s crazy now.”

Crazy like a fox.

The test run for the new set-up at a sold out show at Portland’s Rotture went a little something like this:

The May 27th show at Doug Fir (only five bucks, we know you can spare it) is the tip of the iceberg for Logan + The Gentry this summer. Performances are slated for June 12 at Capital City Pride Festival in Olympia, and June 27 at The Cuff Block Party in Seattle, with more dates on the way. If you are in Portland this Thursday, come up to NW for First Thursday at Portland Photostudio. Along with art by Cat Coats and Victor St. Petersburg, you can enjoy Beat The World bands The Hugs, 1776, and DJ Rescue (Zia from the Dandys.) Portland Photostudio is at 917 NW 19th Ave and the party starts at 6:30. And just because I live in the neighborrhood, let me tell you, parking is a bitch, especially on First Thursday. Think about taking taking the streetcar up, if you can.

As Dandy Warhols, we like to take a different approach to Christmas: a little more Old World and a lot more jaunty. Take Italy. Their holiday season is comparable in length to the common American holiday season, but with its baked eel and lumps of coal and mash-ups with what we think of as Halloween traditions – La Befana the Epiphany witch, children in costumes going from door to door for treats – it seems a hell of a lot more festive than a fat man whipping flying deer to bring you an iPhone, doesn’t it? We are on a mission to convince Christendom that Italy does it best. But these things take time; Rome wasn’t bilked in a day. Easing into the task we commence this year with our annual Christmas shows with the introduction of a sliver of sunny Italy to the Northwest’s dreary environs. Just a taste, a Fellini twist on the usual Dandys holiday performance, with shows on December 11th at Nuemos in Seattle and December 12th and 13th at Portland’s Wonder Ballroom.
